More Evidence for a Privileged Planet

Computer simulations show how unlikely the conditions that the Earth finds itself in are. ScienceDaily reports:

“We now better understand the process of planet formation and can explain the properties of the strange exoplanets we’ve observed,” said Rasio. “We also know that the solar system is special and understand at some level what makes it special.”

“The solar system had to be born under just the right conditions to become this quiet place we see. The vast majority of other planetary systems didn’t have these special properties at birth and became something very different.”

  1. [...] The latest bit of evidence for Rare Earth has to do with the conditions under which our solar system formed, and how the conditions which enabled a life-sustaining planet to emerge here have been notably absent in pretty much every other observed planetary system. [...]

Not only does our solar system appear privileged, but how about our Earth-Moon system. Some argue that life on Earth came about because of the Earth-Moon system. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn4786

Stanley Jaki states, “..the quasi still liquid earth collides with a body of mass similar to Mars, which in turn has a velocity of 10km/sec, that body must essentially move in the same plane as the earth around the Sun. Moreover, the collision must involve the outer crust of the Earth…” The Moon is the result of this collision since its properties resemble the earth’s crust.
